Debbie Hicks
Debbie Hicks has been a resident of Alaska for 32 years and worked for the State of Alaska as a Radio Dispatcher for Park Rangers and State Troopers for 27 years. She began beading in 2002 when she fell in love with the intricate detail of a beaded Santa Amulet Purse Bag on display at Alaska Bead Company. Within six months, she had made the same bag for herself. For Debbie, it was a wonderful way to relax and unwind after a stressful day of work answering 911.
After retiring from her State job, she started to work part-time at ABC in September of 2004. It was at ABC that she received her formal training in basic stringing, knitted beading, brick stitch, peyote stitch, right-angle weave, and netting. Debbie frequently displays her pieces at ABC and has started to sell some of them as well. Debbie has been teaching at ABC since 2005.
